Self Care FTW

Lately, I have been feeling quite frumpy and lumpy and down-in-the-dumpy.

I think I have been feeling this way because I haven’t had that ‘bounce back’ after my pregnancy yet and it’s been getting me down.

In all fairness, I haven’t done much to assist the above-mentioned ‘bounce back’ process – unless binge-watching series and eating pizza counts!

I can’t seem to find the energy to do the most simple tasks like put make-up on or even brush my hair.

I am permanently rocking the ‘I woke up this way, about a month ago and picked up a crack addition somewhere along the line’ look, complete with messy bun on the top of my head and bags that could fit a week’s worth of groceries under my eyes.

Enough Is Enough

Anyway, I decided to take action!

Armed with the internet and a pinch of determination, not to mention Daddydaims and the baby-carrier,  I set out to make myself feel better.

My Act Of Self Care

First, I brushed my hair.

This took just over two hours and the knots I wrangled out put Rastafari’s to shame.


The joys of having curly hair, right?

Next, I put a face-mask on my mug (might as well do the whole shebang) and Googled some homemade hair mask recipes.

I found one that required minimal effort on my part and added some of my own ingredients (as you do) and proceeded to make this mixture, which  Daddydaims dipped each and every strand of my hair in, ignored the fact he practically poured the excess down my face (does not taste as yum as you would expect) and let it do its thang for 30 minutes.

If you can ignore the stench of drying egg yolk, I highly recommend this for anyone with hair who wants to feel like they are taking basic care of themselves.


Now, if you do decide to go ahead and use this hair mask, it is super duper important that when you wash it off – you use cold to lukewarm water, otherwise the egg cooks.

In. Your. Hair.

Fun times.

Feel Good To… Feel Good?

Once I had rinsed my hair out fifty-five and a half times, I had a long, hot shower (this is like a normal shower but with me in it according to Daddydaims – what a honey!)

I finished off my Tash time with shaving my legs, pits and bits – which as any mum will know, is a bloody ball ache.

It’s incredibly important to remember that although you are a mommy, first and foremost you are a woman!

And if you feel good – well, you feel good, you know?

So, slap some make-up on or put on that pretty dress that lives in the back of your wardrobe.

Just do something to make the woman that hides behind the title of ‘mummy’ not feel so neglected.

My Favourite Hair Mask Recipe

  • 1 egg (for long and/or thick hair use 2)
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 squeezes of lemon
  • 2 tbsps of olive oil
  • A teeny weeny dollop of conditioner

Tash’s Tip

If you are prone to oily hair, only use the whites of the egg.

For dry hair, only use the yolk of the egg.

And for ‘normal’ hair – girl, use the whole damn egg (you deserve it!)
