The Hottest Show This Winter
Over the weekend my lovely friend Maruchelle and I attended the first performance of Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR and, I am thrilled (and relieved) to report, we had a wonderful time!
We all know and love the smash DreamWorks story of Madagascar – a bunch of animals who have spent their lives in blissful captivity at New York Central Park Zoo who, with the help of some (alarmingly) resourceful penguins, find themselves having to survive in the wild.
What’s not to love?
About The Show
Now, I don’t know about you, but I always get a little nervous when any of my favourite movies get fiddled with.
Because of this, I live in a perpetual state of fear that my good memories of great movies will be tarnished by a bad rendition and I am SO thankful that isn’t the case with one of my all-time favourite DreamWorks movies.
The show, directed by Jill Girard and Keith Smith, is the first ever production of Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR in South Africa and The Peoples Theatre put these stage rights to good use.
Due to the sheer family-friendliness of the show, there is plenty of crunching and munching and ‘oohing’ and ‘aahing’ going on and the show itself is very interactive, so expect to get involved.
Meet The Cast of Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR
Seasoned professional Luciano Zuppa plays Alex The Lion and, as expected, absolutely smashed his performance!
His best friend Marty the Zebra is played by the hilarious Thokozani Jiyane.
Guys, it is uncanny how much this dude sounds like Chris Rock, the original actor who portrays Marty.
When he first started speaking, we looked at each other like ‘Oh my gaaaash, did they somehow get the actual Chris Rock here?’
Joëlle Rochecouste was AMAZING. She plays the ‘mom’ of the group – Gloria the Hippopotamus. Both Maruchelle and I thought she did an incredible job and we can’t wait to see her perform again.
Marvin Molepo plays Melman, the hypochondriac giraffe and his performance brought with it many laughs. He really brought his character to life.
Bradley Hartmann played my favourite character, King Julien and his performance made me love this role even more.
The accent is bang on, the singing is magnificent and the dancing is insane.
Like, he does a split.
In the air.
And touches his toes.
I must also mention that the kids in the show are absolutely fantastic. They ooze professionalism and are too freaking adorable.
Overall, the cast as a whole is awesome and each and every actor does their bit to make their character shine.
Really, wonderful casting.
